About Almendra
Almendra & Mani: abandoned at an enclosed property with their mom and another male dog and had been left to die. They were in terrible conditions - they were starving and covered in ticks and fleas. Silvia, the shelter owner, tried to get the police involved but they did nothing, so matters were taken into our own hands. Notwithstanding this horrible situation, both girls have always been outgoing and friendly, and love people. Phantom, the male who was with them, went to the LCHS in December and was just adopted yesterday 🙂
Almendra has adapted to the coldest Canadian days really well. She is super affectionate and sweet and will show you in her own way by nudging her head up to your arm. In return she loves getting praise and affection back and is a super cuddler. She's not really interested in dog toys but will chase a squirrel in the yard. Almendra is a little finicky with her food, but eats well and doesn't show any aggression while eating. She likes routine and loves to get out in the morning for her pee and walks and has not had any accidents . She loves her walks and does very well on a leash.
She loves having people around her and also would love to have another dog around for a playmate so long as they aren't too rambunctious.
Adoption Fee | $500
Adoption fees help cover the costs associated with rescue, such as vetting, boarding, and transportation.
Prior to adoption, dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and 4Dx tested, and they receive any necessary treatment. After adoption, they are eligible for one month of free pet insurance.

Why We Love Fostering
-
There is a special joy in seeing the transformation from fear to trust in a foster cat’s face and posture, the first time they relax and warm up to me. There is so much comedy in a litter of crazy kittens, rollicking and tumbling, learning how to be big cats. Each foster kitty has been cared for as if they were my own, and I enjoy the confidence in the feeling that they are ready for their forever home. That is the biggest difference between choosing to adopt from a small rescue rather than a shelter, and why I love volunteering. People often ask me how I can be so strong to let such sweet kitties go to adoption, but the feeling that I have space to help another is worth the emotional goodbye. Penny is the twenty-first cat I have helped, and I am not going to stop anytime soon! Fostering for Pets Alive is by far the most rewarding volunteering I have ever done.
*** Please note that we are NOT accepting applications for the dogs listed as Coming Soon. These dogs have either yet to arrive or have only just recently arrived. Once their foster families get to know them a little better, a detailed bio outlining their personality and describing their ideal home will be posted and we will then begin accepting applications for them. ***
