"I want to start a dog rescue"
One day in September of 2013, I came across a post of a little dog that was going to be put down unless "rescued".
I didn't even really know what that meant at the time. I had adopted two dogs, Chloe from Louisiana through the Hamilton HS, and Allie from the London HS. Upon following the link to another dog and shelter, to yet another dog and shelter, I quickly realized the enormity of the situation, especially in the southern states. I said to my husband that night... "I want to start a dog rescue" and created a FB page the very next day. It took months to get everything set up... applications, agreements, processes, etc., and then I bit the bullet and brought our first dogs up from Kentucky. Nellie and Lilly (whom we still have! :) ). For the first year, we fostered and found homes for all the dogs ourselves until I partnered with someone and recruited volunteers. Long story short, I didn't agree with the way things were being done so I left, along with many volunteers, and joined PAN (formerly St. Catharines Pets Alive who only rescued cats at the time).
My involvement with PAN is pulling the dogs from shelters, coordinating their vetting, boarding/foster homes in KY, coordinating transport, and fostering when we can. I live in Wainfleet with my husband, our four dogs, Chloe, Allie, CJ and Lilly and five chickens.
I love photography, am doing a second degree in Women Studies at Brock part-time, and recently started a graduate program in Public Administration in Toronto. We'll see where I end up! 😉
